Happy Birthday to Me. The big 42 today. I can honestly say I am in better shape at 42 then I was at 32 and probably even 22.
This may be a tough one for me though as this is the first year without my Mom. We lost her June 24th this year in a car accident.
My lunch today from Bok Bok Fresh. Good Stuff.
More about me.
As mentioned in my first post I am not new to blogging about weight loss and fitness. Back in October 2005 (week before my 38th birthday) after watching an episode of season 2 The Biggest Loser I decided to change my life. At the time my kids were 5, 3 and 3 and I knew I would need to make some changes if I wanted to be here for them. I was always a big guy but saw my weight climb to 330 pounds at that time.
Long story short, I changed my diet and started exercising. The weight came off quick. So I decided to start running and ran a few races, that led me to signing up for my first Triathlon in 2007. I loved it and have been running and doing tri’s since. I still do the runs and tri’s but with the weight coming back I am doing them slower. I have completed a marathon last year, Marine Corps Marathon, and was to run NYC marathon this year (this weekend actually). Unfortunately I got injured so decided to defer it until next year.
Here is a time line of my past weight’s.
10/25/2005 - 330 pounds
09/18/2007 - 217 pounds - ran my first 1/2 marathon and did my first sprint tri that week.
2008 - I set a goal to run 1000 miles for the year (which I did).
2009 - 2010 - weight has crept up to 260 -270 range.
So although I know how to loss the weight, I did it before, I have to get re-energized to do it. I have a great supporting wife, family, and friends to help me along the way.
The local paper here in South Jersey ran a story on me in 2007 which you can find here (if I do this right). http://blog.nj.com/southjerseylife/2007/11/his_loss_is_his_gain.html
I hope to be motivated and hope to motivate others along the way.

Hello Dan, I just wanted to wish you good luck with your weight loss.
The tumblr community (fitblrs) are really inspiring and motivating - it's a great place to start :)
Thank you for the message, I look forward to being inspired and hopefully inspiring others. Just trying to figure out the site. Maybe a stupid question but is “Fitblr” just a tag you put on your post or is there a separate site?
Thanks Again
Dan
Wednesday Weigh-in - WIW
No picture of the scale this week, but I did have a small weight loss.
10/27/2010 - 263.8
11/03/2010 - 262.6
Down -1.2 pounds
Not great but considering I didn’t give 100% effort this week I will take it.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INANIMATE OBJECT?
The “Stretch out Strap” that I have been using in Physical Therapy for the past 3 weeks.
My new starting point. Here it is in black and white.
Hello Tumblr
Hello people of Tumblr! I am not new to blogging but am certainly new to Tumblr. I came to Tumblr after discovering Ben Does Life. So I guess you can say this blog will be about weight loss (I hope) and fitness. I am sure I will sprinkle in some family stuff as well.
I guess I should give you some info about me. I am (will be in a few days) 42 years old. I am married to a wonderful wife, and we have a 10 year old son, and twin 8 year old girls. Also have a black lab and a 200 pound St. Bernard. I have lived in NJ my whole life but slowly am working my way out. Started in North Jersey, grew up in Central Jersey and now live (past 14 years) in South Jersey.
As mentioned I have blogged in the past and the address of that blog is on the right if you care to check it out. Wanted to get back into blogging for accountability but wanted a fresh start. So although I am pointing you to that blog, I am not pointing that blog to this one.
So that is my quick introduction I look forward to sharing more in the future.
Dan
